Hi! I was involved in a minor traffic accident a couple of weeks ago in Illinois. I pulled out on to a two lane one way road (when I pulled out no other cars were on this road) I got about half way down the road and put my blinker on to switch lanes because I wanted to pull into a parking lot to park. When I started merging I made sure the lane was clear. There is another side street about half way in between where I pulled out and where the parking lot is. After I was almost totally in the other lane I hear screeching tires and bam. I had collided with someone else. The speed limit on that street is 25. His right front end hit my left back tire. So we both pulled our cars into the parking lot and he called the police. The only witness was the person riding in my car. Noone else stopped. The police came and got our information and then asked me to explain what happened. I did so and explained that I thought he was speeding to which the officer replied "speed is not a factor in accidents, unless it's on a hill or around a curve." So I received a citation for improper lane usage. I have taken care of the other persons car out of pocket. My court date is in a few weeks and I'm required to appear. This is my first accident and ticket. I am just not sure how to go about getting court supervision. Where if I don't have any other violations in a certain amount of time it gets dropped. I don't know if I should plead guilty or not guilty. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks!

No one can advise you on whether you plead guilty or not - only an attorney familair with your specific set of circumstances can do that.
From what you wrote it sounds as if you merged into the other driver's lane and into the other vehicle. This is usually going to be your fault. But, there might be other circumstances that can be brought into play here.
