About a week ago, I was given an MIP for possession of tobacco. 1st offense.
I'm 17 years old, and will be 18 on July 2.

Story:
It was Thursday night, me and a few friends had attented a play, and my one friend had her cigarettes on her, but didn't want to hold on to them the entire night. She didn't have her purse, so I said she could put them in mine.

We left the play with different people, completely forgetting about the ciggs.
The next morning, I attended school for my last day (as I am graduating). To my surprise, there had been a bomb threat, and cops were at the door checking bags. I had still not remembered the ciggs in my purse and handed my bag over to the police officer. Then I was issued the MIP and told I was going to be charged as an adult. Which makes no sense to me.

Does anyone know the typical punishment for an MIP in Michigan?

Update

I went to the courthouse today, and they did my arraignment, instead of on the 8th.

I plead guilty and got a $75 fine.

Just incase someone else was looking for something along these lines.
