I was at a concert last night and got cited for an MIP while we were in the parking lot before going in. Apparently Greensboro, NC has some sort of first offender deal so that the citation won't go on my record. The only problem is that I'll be back home in California by the time my court date comes around. Basically, I have two options: pay the $130 fine and have the MIP go on my record or find a lawyer to represent me in court so it's not on my record.

My question is how bad does it look to have an MIP on my record? What sort of repercussions might it have in the future and how long is it on the record? I am going to look into lawyers, and it's a clear choice if the lawyer is less than $200, but a friend of mine said she paid $700 for one to represent her. How much is it worth to keep the citation off my record?

Just my own personal opinion: I wouldn't let an MIP on a prospective employee's record keep me from hiring him.
