I recently got an MIP, in Ludington, MI. I'm 20 years old. I was at a party at a cabin and got busted by the cops for loud music. At midnight after realizing I was drinking to much for my first time I went to bed in my tent that we set up out side the cabin. Around 2am cops showed up and then searched the house and came out and searched the tents. They told the house owner that if he didnt let him seach the tents he was going to go to jail for providing to minors. He was the one giving us alcohol. He didn't get charged with anything There were 5 tents set up outside. He came to the tent to wake us up asked us for id (I was in the tent with my bf) We told him we didn't have ours on us because we didn't and then he proceeded to have us follow him up to the cabin. There he was giving everybody a breathalizer who was under 21. I took mine and blew a .11 which I don't understand because I stopped drinking two hours before and had only consumed one cup of alcohol. The cop proceeded to let people who were over 21 take one just because they wanted to. When I asked to retake mine he refused to let me. I didn't have my lisence but I told him I was 20. After I took it and blew he wrote me a ticket called in my name and got my drivers lisence that way and all my information. He spelt my name wrong and got my house adress wrong. This was my first offence. I was wondering what should I expect? If I call the court, since I live about 5 hours away, since it my first offence is there a chance I can just plead guilty by mail? Does this seem normal, the cops gave out 12 mips that night, and searched the tents, he never saw any alcohol with me or me drinking because I was sleeping when he showed up. What penelties should I expect from Michigan for my first MIP?
