MIP and Detox, want to go smoothly
Hi so i got my first MIP this weekend and was taken to Detox. I was really drunk and we were going back to my friends dormroom(i live in the same dormhall) when i may have tripped in the hallway at his door and umm.. crawled into his room. the RAs were doing rounds and saw me do this and knocked on the door and saw beer cans around. they helped us out by getting the beer cans out and everything but i was unable to tell them my birthday or my school id clearly due to my inebriation. they were required to call the cops and they showed up and talked to me for about an hour and breathalyzed me and put me in handcuffs then took me to detox. It was not unfriendly they even let me go to the bathroom before the cuffs. I got in detox and filled out the forms and 8 hours later they let me leave with a .1 because i was well behaved and had some good conversations with the breathalyzer guy. so i got billed 185 for the 8 hours in detox.

Here's the thing i was drunk, i'm only 18, i got caught and I'm fine with that. My ticket says
"10.24.061 Underage Possesion/ Consumption of Ethyl Alcohol By PErson Age 18, 19, 20"

in the FEE box it just says SUM
i have a court date on the 14th of January 2009 at 8:15 AM and i signed underneath it.

upon leaving the detox clinic the lady told me i would need to do an abuse class for the court and it would be best to get started on my own.
Here's the thing, i'm not an abuser, i dont even smoke cigarettes accept like twice a week if a friend needs to talk over one. i drink maybe once or twice a weekend if i feel like it.

i just want to know.
A: why did i go to detox instead of just an MIP
B: what should i do? should i take a class early even though im honestly not an abuser just to suck up to the court?
C: i just want a minimum sentence and will probably not be getting another MIP, what should i say in court?
D: what am i looking at here?

You do what your told or suffer the consequences. You might learn something in AA if not ok. So your think your not an abuser ok, then sit back and enjoy the stories they are very entertaining

Married to an AA member sober nearly 23 years now

It would be heplful to know your location.

1st offense MIP you should not be forced to go to AA. That does't mean you won't, but at my location I haven't heard of a Judge sentencing someone to AA unless they admit openly they are an alcoholic, are worried they are, or bring up some other factual incidences to show they are likely an alcoholic. . . or on some kind of assesment make it clear they are an alcoholic, etc. . .

You went to detox because people die of alcohol poisoning. When you can't remember the most basic of things, you've had way too much to drink ,and your system may start shutting down.

Whatever you tell the Judge should involve the fact you are sorry you had so much to drink, it's a rare occurance, etc.

Please keep us informed as to what happens in this case.
