This whole situation is very juvenile...

I live in Michigan...

On December 28,07, a friend of mine and I placed some ridiculous prank calls to a girl. She took them very serious and is now taking the case to a court room. I have researched and found that the maximum sentence is 500.00 fine and up to 90 days in jail.

I never actually spoke with this girl. Three phone calls were placed from my phone that went straight to her voice mail. We knew that when the other girl involved made the calls and spoke with this girl she got upset. That is what made the calls continue, it was kind of funny at the time. It was very immature and ridiculous of us to do.

Today I received a notice to appear in court on April 3, 08. Do I need to be represented by an attorney? I plan on pleading guilty because I already submitted a police statement and an apology letter to the girl. I am a mother with a husband and bills to pay. What is the likelihood that I may face a jail sentence. Nothing that was said by the girl who placed the calls was malicious, or threatening in any way. Just annoying, that was the point.

I NEED to know if I should seek representation because I cannot afford one by any means. I also need to know what the chances are of the sentencing. If I plead guilty will I be sentenced right away? And is there anyway to avoid the misdemeanor charge if I plead? I never meant to cause this girl so much grief. But what is killing me is that I know she is taking pleasure in the fact that I may face jail for something so petty:mad: . I have an 8 month old baby to take care of. I cant go to jail!

Thank you! PLEASE RESPOND ASAP so that I may seek legal assistance if totally necessary.
