Alcohol & Drugs: MIP, MIC, Intoxication misdemeanor marijuana charge

i was recently charged with misdemeanor possesion of marijuana. my question involves the legality of the way it was detected by the police. my mother had found about a gram of marijuana in my guitar case and tried to get hold of a friend of hers who was a sheriff to consult about the matter. she did not get to speak with him directly but left a message on his machine. the next morning i woke up with two police officers at the door asking if they could search. my step dad obliged them and they went directly for my guitar case. the statement i was given by the officers states that my mother called 911 from work to have the officers come to my house and remove the pot. she denies this full heartedly and i believe she is telling the truth. do i have any kind of case here or should i just plead guilty and forget about it?
