This morning I was cited for reckless driving while leaving a car club meet. I was going about 45-50 (speed limit 45) on the road which is two lanes both way, and by the time I noticed the cars in front of me were completly stopped I swerved around them, but not recklessly enough to make the tires squeal or anything. Well the police officer back down the road followed me for about a mile and then hit the lights and it was over.

Last August I got a ticket for exhibition of speed, which I plead guilty to and was sentenced to 3 years summary probation and had to pay a fine. I did a little bit of research and found out that for this new count I'm facing 5-90 days in jail and $145-1000 in fines.

I'd just like a little bit of advice on what I should do, there's no way I could take jail time with the way the county out here is.. I know I should have thought about that at the time but I didn't. How would I go about getting this reduced to an infraction, and avoiding jail time?

Retain an attorney or start practicing eating beans and potato salad.

How would a public defender compare to a paid attorney?

What is the chance of me being able to avoid jail time? If I was sentenced to lets say 5 days would I be able to serve it one day at a time?

Thanks.

I'm in Riverside, California, the court I have to go to is in San Bernardino.
