Misrepresentation of Property?

My wife and I moved from Chicago to Winston Salem, North Carolina. We found an apartment complex that we could afford, saw floor plans, spoke with the landlord, etc. Before and when we moved in, I was told that the neighborhood was safe, that there were "no crime problems," and it was a quiet complex. The inside of the apartment was great, clean, and huge. I then signed on to a 1-year lease.

Fast forward 2 months later (now). My car has been broken into, there are gunshots that ring out at night, and it is anything but quiet. We allegedly have 3 "security officers," yet they were nowhere to be found when (a) my car was broken into, or (b) when the PD came to run prints on my car. My wife and I are afraid to leave the apartment for more than a couple hours at a time, fearing that someone will shatter our patio door the same way they did my car, and ransack our belongings.

In my mind, the property was grossly misrepresented. The landlord knew what to tell someone moving in from out of town, and knew that based off everything she told me, I would sign a lease.

Is this a valid case?

If you want to get out of the lease, that won't happen. However, here is what you can do to demand action from your landlord: send them a certified letter telling them exactly what you describe in your posting and request remedial action. If no change on the status of your request, then ask management to consider allowing you to break the lease early with minimum or no penalties. Hope this helps!
