I received a ticket for improper use of the carpool lane, i had received one other ticket in my life and i had
gotten a notification in the mail letting me know when to appear to court, therefore i assumed i would receive one for this one too. well needless to say a few months later i received a letter stating that my license can be suspended and a bench warrant issued for my arrest, along with a $800+ fee, the original fee was somewhere in the $400 range. Within the hour of receiving this letter I rushed to court, where i spoke to the clerk, she advised me that the state of California was no longer sending out notifications, to speak with the judge. i soon found out half the people in my court room were their on similar conditions, so i explained my situation to the judge and he ordered me to pay the original fine of $400 something dollars. i paid and took care of everything.

My question is... will this failure to appear show up on a background check for employment, such as the firefighting or the EMS industry, and can it affect my chance of employment. And if so how can i go about removing it off my record?

If you paid it, likely not.
If it does, it is nothing but a traffic ticket.
Not much to worry about now, it's over.

Depending on the nature of the background investigation, it could very well show up. It could appear through a search of local court records or from a pull of your DMV record if you must provide that information as a condition of employment.

It might have some effect on firefighting if they require a clean license as it could represent a point on your license. Since it is an infraction, it is unlikely to be an issue for an EMS position where you do not have to drive. The point that resulted from your conviction will remain on your record for 36 months.
