My mother who suffers from Alzheimer's went missing 8 1/2 months ago. My father and I were her care givers. My mother was known to walk (wander) at least 3 times a day. On June 19, 2007 she walked off and could not be found by me or my dad. We called law officials who conducted a search for 7 days with the use of helicoptors, ATV's, horses and ground searchers. Nothing was found. We have posted flyers, contacted every missing person organization in an effort to find her. 3 weeks ago I was contacted by the Texas Ranger to come and have a conversation about that day and I volunteered to take a polygraph test. I had the test last Wednesday but due to my normal breathing habit and nerves the test was inclusive, I didn't pass or fail. My dad also submitted to a test but due to shaking he is not able to take the test. On Saturday, March 1, United Response Search and Rescue came and searched my property. I need advice on what to do. I am certain that I will be contacted by the Texas Ranger and I have agreed to take another polygraph test in a month. Any advice on how to proceed from this point forward?

It's impossible to give you guidance here. If you've got nothing to hide then it shouldn't be an issue. Still I prefer to speak to an attorney before I'd take another test just to make sure I know whom I'm dealing with. Polygraphs are still not conclusive evidence and guides at best. While they may work much of the time they aren't reliable enough to be used as conclusive evidence and is generally inadmissible evidence. I'm very sorry to hear about your mother but, alas, this is the eventual way of life. I hope you are able to resolve this without further turmoil.
