Mitigation for Traffic Ticket Advice

I live in Washington, Thurston County, zip code 98512. I am 18 years of age, graduated from highschool. I was cited for statute code 46.61.525, Negligent driving 2nd, on date: 12/17/07

Today I had to drive my Grandpa to work. On the way, we were talking, i was slightly distracted, and I drove through a stop sign. I did not notice until my Grandpa told me. It was a 5 way stop and there were stop signs, i just didn't notice them. I know, my fault. If there had been any other cars at the stops, i would have noticed and most likely stopped. anyways, the unfortunate part is the speed limit was 50 mph. so i not only went through a stop sign, but at a high speed. A cop was watching, and pulled me over. I was very courteous, but obvoiously nervous, and felt like quite an idiot. He ticketed me for $550! I'm guessing thats probably average or something, but i simply can't pay it between car payments, car insurance, college, and a low paying part time job. I don't know much about this stuff, but if i mitigate it could it be possible to be put on a payment plan? Also, do i have any kind of a case to say that if tickets are meant to discipline citizens and dissuade them from repeating the offense, is it reasonable to make someone pay a fee that they simply can't ever afford? 550 dollars is literally more than three weeks pay. i only have 15 days to ammend it though. I can attest to the fact that 200 dollars would be More than ENOUGH to dissuade me from repeating the offense. When it comes down to it, the state wouldn't be losing money by making the ticket less, considering they're commandeering it from me anyways, right? Or am I all wrong? Please give me advice, i'm scared of what might happen.

You don't have a chance at winning if the cop shows up.........You can see if the DA's office can cut you a better deal. But many counties have some form of payement plan. check with yours.

what about deferment? what is it and do i have a chance to get it? will that lower the penalty? require me to take a class? give me a year long probationary period with no record? Is the cop likely [compared to the norm and the situation] to show up?

Deferred adjudication is a possible deal you can get if it is available in your county for such an offense. It would keep the ticket off your record if you don't have another one over a certain period of time in that area. It however would still require you to pay possibly ¾ of the ticket price.
