My Mother is in a nursing home receiving S.S. Benefits and VA Benefits. Her checking account is handled by my niece as P.O.A. She has accumulated this past year extra money in her account, due to less doctor bills, etc. Someone told us we can receive an allotment per month as a gift. We are worried that because this is federal money it isn't the same as money that was earned through out her life. Please let us know the law.
