My girlfriend and I signed a contract to purchase a home. We both agreed to get the usual inspections done which amounted to $1915. I wrote the checks from my account as she was in Los Angeles at the time...the home purchase was in Northern California, where I am living. We decided not to go ahead with the purchase as a result of the outcome of the inspections.
Since our decision not to go ahead we have parted ways, I sent her an email to outline the breakdown of the expenses and her share of the cost of inspections. I recieved notification that she has blocked my emails, so I used an alternative email address of mine and followed this email up with a written letter. I have had no response from the email or letter.
This has happened in the past week.
She has sold her house in LA and is due to settle on 9/3/08, after this date I will not have a forwarding address for her.
What can I do to get my money back or should I just accept that I will not get it back?

You can file a claim with the small claims court to recover the costs for the inspection that you both agreed upon. You will need to have a valid address so they can send her a notification and can respond to the court. Good Luck!

Thank you. My concern is that she will be moving as of 9/3, is there anyway I can find out her forwarding address or could I use her work address (which I dont really want to do).

You can provide the court both addresses. Use her current address first. She probably will file a change of address form with the post office so one way or the other the courts will have a way of contacting her. During proceedings, you can ask the court to request an update on her address.

Rather than go through the ordeal of court would it be advisable to get a mediator to help retrieve the money initially?
