In Michigan, there is an eviction process even on a month-to-month, right?
06/02 - Signed lease, husband as renter, I am listed as an occupant only
06/04 - Lease expired
06/04 - 01/07 - Month-to-month lease
01/07 - Marriage dissolved, husband moved out, I stayed in apt. Husband informed landlord of situation, landlord said he would let me stay if I paid the rent.
01/07 to 04/07 - Paid rent
05/07 - didn't pay rent,
05/29/07 - Landlord comes in apt without knocking (no proof, just happened - I told her to leave, she yelled "Pay the rent!" and left)
05/30/07 - Same scenario as above
05/31/07 - Came home from work @ 8:30 PM to find landlord and 2 others ransacking apartment, shelves tipped over, all valuables gone, baby pictures ripped to shreds. They stood at the door and would not let me in, said I was trespassing. They said they were justified in doing so because my husband came earlier that week and surrendered his keys, therefore they could take whatever they wanted. He was gone for 3 months, and I can prove that they were aware of that. At this point, I still hadn't paid the rent, and never received any notice whatsoever to either pay the rent or leave the premesis. I immediately went to the police and filed a report, but they told me to go to court.
What do you think?
