hi:) i am in desparate need of advice if anyone can help me. i have an open misdemeanor theft case in ohio and need to move cross country to be with my terminally ill mom permanently asap! i have no idea how this will work with it being open but my mom is more important that this case; however, on the flip side i do not want an open warrant in ohio if i ever return. i have 1 previous unathorized-use misdemeanor theft charge so i am thinking they will want to give me jail time, probation or something but am not sure, i have a lawyer but they are telling me that they cannot guarantee what is going to happen, well that is not helping because my mom needs me now! if i am moving to another state permanently would that be grounds for some leinency since i am not going to be residing in ohio anymore anyways, basically what do i do if i cannot show up to all the pre-trials, etc.. is there anyway to end this early with a huge fine etc so i can move asap? any help would be apprieciated. i hung around with stupid people in ohio and the charges were mainly due to them so please no well why did you steal then if you need to move comments.. thanks!!!

You need to talk to your attorney. You probably do not need to appear if your attorney is going to appear for you. However this likely will not be dropped due to your circumstances. You can ask for probation and fines, and see if your attorney is able to get you that. If you cannot escape jail time you can ask to be incarcerated in your moms state. You really need to talk to your attorney.

If you are unable to show for required hearings or a trial, an arrest warrant will almost certainly be issued.
