I recently moved from Texas to Missouri and used a moving service for the first time. I'll spare all the details on how incompetant the company was and just state the major issues. First, the company presented themselves to us that they were the mover when in fact they were only a broker. We did not know a different moving company was picking up our things until they day of the move. Also, we recieved our things three weeks after the agreed upon delivery date (yes, THREE weeks). On top of that, we never heard from the subcontracted company until the driver called us when he arrived.....they would never answer their phone or return phone calls. When they arrived, we were told we owe over $1000 over the quoted amount because we were overweight. I am sure the weight they had was innaccurate, however when I asked to observe the weighing (which I thought was my legal right), I was denied. Not only that, the driver didn't even have a weight ticket for me to look at - only an invoice. They refused to even open the truck doors until we paid in cash up front....when I refused to pay until I saw my things, they threatened to take our things back to Texas. I even contacted the local police but was told this was a civil matter; we were forced to pay what they told if we wanted to see our things. Do I have the right to take this company to court? If so, it wouldn't be worth my time if I only could get back the $1000 that I was overcharged. Are their any damages I could seek due to their incompetence?
