My brother has just been sent to prison on a conviction for setting a fire in a trash barrel which would not have been such a big deal but he has been in and out of trouble for years since Mom and Dad got a divorce. He was 17 when he got into trouble this latest round and just recently turned 18. We are worried about him because I think the place where he got sent is not for juveniles and the last we heard from him he said he was raped by 2 guys the first 2 nights he was in general population so now he is trying to get in PC but no one is doing anything for him. He was checked in the medical call and verified symptoms but will not say its rape.

He is not a bad guy he has had some stuff happen to him and ever since he has been like a different person. He used to be quiet and did good in school and then when he was 14 a friend of his died under circumstances and he has for some reason blame himself. Anyway it just started things going in the wrong direction.

None of us has much money as I only just got a job detailing cars so we cannot hire a lawyer to help him is there some way to get one appointed for him? My aunt always talked about how he was a good kid and good looking too but I think in this case it not doing him a favor.

Isnt there som kind of law saying that in such cases they have to help him get into a less hard-time prison sence he is younger and never been inside before?

My mother is really worried and can't sleep at night.

Sorry to hear about your brothers ordeal. No there is nothing you can do to get him into lower level security prison. The prison has to put him into pc if he ask for it. maybe call the warden and see if he/she can get that part of it straight. good luck.

Sadly, your brother's ordeal is not uncommon.
You can try to assist him by making some calls, but you will be the bazillionth person to address these concerns and your requests may fall on deaf ears.
Prisons are not friendly places. Even in protective custody your brother would face certain hardships.
Best of luck to you both.

How can it be possible that they can ignore the problem since there is proof that he has had some injuries but they would rather believe he was engaged voluntarily?

He is not in General Population because he wants to be as he has asked for protective custody. If he says he was raped why aren't they supposed to act accoringly?

We can't tell you why officials might fail to act. Who knows?

What you should do, is keep trying. Go visit the boy. Speak with him.

Contact by mail and telephone your elected state and federal officials. Write your governor, state senators, state representatives, the director of corrections, the state attorney general, and even his sentencing judge. Contact prisoner rights organizations, churches, ACLU, anyone that has pull and power. Don't stop.

Your plea will fall on many deaf ears. Eventually, someone will investigate.
Keep trying. Never quit or give up. If this happened it was wrong. He needs you to try and get the remedy for this wrong.

Thank you very much for the suggestions and your opinions. No, I won't stop trying to help him especially if there is a chance to help him. Thank you for not condemning him as a bad person.

I went to another site like this one and explained about my brother. Everyone said they blame my brother and said it was his own fault and anyway he probably liked it which hurts very much because my brother did something wrong but he is not a worthless person.

Thank you for giving me hope again for everyone here who responded with care.:)

Not all that are in jail are bad people, some just make stupid mistakes. As long as they learn and become better.

Thank you for helping me and trying to help my brother. Me and my mother will keep making calls until we find somebody who can help.
