My childrens father will not let my kids come home.

I allowed my ex to have some time with our children this summer. I should not have due to the fact that 2 years ago he nearly beat me to death by beating me over the head with a wooden chair. I spoke with him today and he started threatening me again. I told him that I was going to come get the kids he told me he would not let them leave. I am fearful of my children being with him. I have not filed any cusody paperwork at this time. I called the police and they said they could not make him give me the kids but would assist in going there with me. He lives in Minot, ND and I live in Blaine, Mn. How can I get my children home immediatly and safely? Please help.

Realistically, the police cannot force Dad to hand over the children if he is actually Dad. You need a court order - get yourself to an attorney immediately.
