my company is trying to steal from me please help

so this is the deal my job involves driving and being out on the road for weeks at a time, and long story short $2,000.00 cash came up missing from the trip and when me and my partner got back in town the company verbally forced both of us to to pay $1,000.00 each and at the time stated that both of us were to take a polygraph test with the money to be returned pending the test results this was almost 3 weeks ago and now they are " beating around the bush " about giving me the polygraph test,and refuse to let me go back to work until i take the test, yet they let my partner go back to work. I am not a rich person and this $1,000.00 hit has put me behind on all of my bills, please is there anything i can do to clear my name and get my money back

The sticky issue here is that you didn't report the missing money and made them aware that there was an issue when on the road. A reasonable person would have done that. So you know it, the company cannot force anyone to pay for something that goes missing or take lie detectors. File a complaint with the EEOC if the company continues to impose that on you. thanks for the info i'll let you know what happens... and just to clear things up a little the company was told about the money as soon as it was found to be missing
