Hello and thanks for reading.

My girlfriend was involved in a car accident this last summer driving her now ex's car. She was exiting an off ramp and slid off the road due to excessive rain. The police nor insurance company were contacted.

She agreed to fix the car to working condition in writing (this part gets sketchy as to what exactly was agreed on here on the condition to return the car to.). Long story short, they broke up due to his abusive nature. She was willing to pay to return the car to a running condition as it suffered damage to the headlight and tail light assemblies.

She received a letter in the mail today, he submitted a suit for 4,500 dollars.

The Kelly Blue Book is $700 for this particular car in 'Fair' condition as it was in before the accident. We aren't sure what to expect here exactly, and being so stressed from him, she didn't have a good grasp on what was going on around her at the time.

If I missed any relevant information let me know and I'll be happy to try to find out more, and again, thank you so much in advance!

He won't be able to win more than actual damages in court. He won't be able to justify the amount and will look quite silly trying to do so. Don't worry about the $4500 claim. Just make sure she shows up in court when required.

Should we be prepared with the KBB value? Basically we just want to be ready, this is more spite then anything on his part trying to claw for a ridiculous amount.

Having the Bluebook with you in court to refute his outrageous claim wouldn't be a bad idea.
Judges love proof, real proof!
