I live in Las Vegas NV and I am a renter. The property that I am renting is recently in foreclosure due to the owner not paying the mortgage. I've been getting letters from the Mortgage Company and checked in the Clark county recorder and found this: Document Type: Default Recorded: 09/30/2008 10:26:33 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------one of my friends told me I can stop paying rent and it will take them 6 month to evict us I have just moved from a house that the owner told me I have to live because he is cant pay the mortgage. I moved to this house and the property manager told me that the owner got a lot of money and will not stop paying but I see all the letters coming to my house and I am very concern. I paid in advance last month until the end of October because he asked me to pay early. I had a contract for 6 month and its over already. My question is Should I still be paying him rent if the house is in foreclosure?
Thank you

That's a good question. Have you spoken to either the landlord or the mortgage company? Evictions are always a long process but you don't want to go that route. You're more likely and better off to make a mutual agreement with the property owner. Regarding the rent, it's not uncommon to withhold the rent since you want to make sure that you're not paying the wrong party either.

No, I haven't spoken to the landlord of the property management, but I will send a letter on the 30th asking them to show me a proof that they are paying the mortgage and I will put the rent money in an escrow account until they do so. do you think that they can kick me out and now give me the deposit I gave them?
