My sister in wyoming was advised by her atty to sign a quit claim deed to her house so her ex could re-fi and pay out my sis her equity. He never paid, said he couldn't get enough $$ . Then her atty QUIT on her saying the Judge over the post divorce hearings rarely awards atty fees and she felt she wouldn't get paid. Now my sis has NO house but the mortgage(s?) are in her name. Does my sis have any recourse? And can an atty just quit like that? Thank You for your time.

She can continue pursuing her divorce action, possibly now with a new attorney. Probably now on the basis of unjust enrichment.

Alternatively, just because the mortgage is in her name doesn't mean she has to pay it. She can default on the loan. (Yes, her credit will be shot.) The bank will foreclose on the property. If her ex doesn't like that, he better step up.

And can an atty just quit like that?
Unless what he did prejudiced her interests, he's within his rights to drop her as a client. But without knowing all the facts, it's difficult to say.
