Mystery bill from doctor

I recently had a hernia surgery. I just received my bill(s) and have a question. Aside from the bill I received from my surgeon I got a bill from another doctor that works in her office. Hand written on that bill it says that she assisted. I was never introduced to the assisting doctor nor was I told that she was needed or would be in surgery in any way. The surgeon that I choose was part of my "network" doctors so insurance helps pay the bills. The assisting doctor was not part of the network so insurance does not help to cover that bill. Had I know the assisting doctor was needed I would have chosen another surgeon.

My question is: Am I required to pay the bill for the "assisting" doctor since I was never informed that she was needed or going to be involved.

Thanks for the help.

No one can properly advise you about the bill.

We don't know enoughbabout the circumstances.

Why don't you contact the physician's office and inquire about the bill?
