Name Change

I have never gone by the name on my birth certificate, parents gave me one name and called me another. Had my social security # since I was 7 and it does not have my birth name on it. My driver's license does not have my birth name on it...nothing other than my birth certificate has my birth name on it. After 44 years, I am now having a problem. I have recently had to apply for MediCal and they are giving me a huge hassle about how my birth certificate doesn't match anything else I have. I have applied for and have been accepted through other branches of the social services department with the same paperwork I had given the MediCal office. I don't know what to do about this. Can I change my birth certificate name? These people are acting like I'm a criminal or something.

If you can't get them to accept it by any other means, you may have to go through the formal process of changing your legal name. It sounds as if you informally did so many years ago and it stuck... but look into the court process for doing the same. It will give legal recognition that you are the person on the certificate and indicate your "new" name.
You could really thow them for a loop and change your name to a symbol like Prince did
