hi i was arrested this week in the desert in socal for felon in possesion of a firearm. i was with two friend in the desert shooting and riding dirt bikes. my friends where shooting and a ranger pulled up and ran all are names. the second he found out i was a felon he was on me.the guns all belonged and where registered to my friend except one, which he kept for me but was mine.i was honest, thinking he would be okay if i told the truth.i got arrested my friends got let go, they took pictures of all guns ammo dirt bikes (all not mine) to use against me in the case. my wife had to bail me out it was $20,000 bail,in a town that was 2 hours away.i have not gotten into trouble in 6 years. i was never a violent offender just a drunk. i sobered up and have been a good person for years now. i am the sole support for my wife and 3 kids. my wife just had a new baby, i am very concerened with what will happen. any advice? anybody know what will happen? do you know if i should request a change of venue to my town which is big and might go easier than the little desrt city?

1-How did you lose your gun rights?

2-What is a "ranger"? State or Federal?

3-Were you charged with a State or Federal Crime?(just because it is a feleny, doesn't make it a federal charge)

4-What court are you in? State or Federal?

No, you will not get a change of venue to your town.

 What crack pipe loving shyster told you that?

In Montana, once sentence is complete, ALL of your civil rights are restored, including right to have a gun. Although the US attorney may prosecute, the state cannot. Look a little deeper.

Let me see if I have this right: You were charged by a Federal agent, and it is in state court?

If that's the case, when did the Federal Agent have State jurisdiction? Did this ranger charge you himself? or did he make a complaint to someone in the state and they charged you?
