I live in Minnesota. Two months ago my father became hospitalized. At that time his girlfriend decided she wanted out of the relationship. She notified me she would be able to store his personal belongings in her basement until his recovery. He has now moved to a rehibilitation center and may be there for a few months. She asked that I come pick up his things and store them myself.

In a phone conversation discussing moving ligistics, she stated that she "pawned" (actually sold to a friend) a highly valuble guitar. She stated that her reasoning was that she needed to make her house payment. I have asked for the guitar and she will not return it. She stated that she needs to receive $2500 and she will give it back. I asked how she came to that dollar amount and she said that is what my father "owes" her. I then asked if they had a formal agreement or something in writing with this dollar amount and she said no.

I am at ends at what to do. I just informed my father and he is devistated. Please help me with some advice. Thanks

You need to have your dad give you a Power of Attorney if he is unable to make it to court so you can file a claim in small claims court to recover either the property or the money for the guitar. Good Luck!
