Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Need advice on what to do....wife shoplifted

Not sure what we should do. My wife of 28 yrs old shoplifted a little over $500 of cloths and some jewerly at Kohls Monday. She was doing it because we are broke for christmas and wanted to get me some cloths and she was going to give the jewerly as gifts or pawn them for cash for other gifts. Anyway she was caught and has a court date the first week fo the new year. We can't afford a lawyer, what should she plee? Can we get her in the diversion program? its her first offense. She also works in retail at 2 other stores and we are worried they might find out and let her go. We won't even be able to pay the fine I'm sure unless we can pay it in small amounts off.

Just because you cannot afford an Attorney doe snot mean you cannot consult some. Start calling them many offer free consultations get as many as you can. Yes diversion is your best option but some countys do not have such programs. Far as fines go its not uncommon to set up payment arrangments just be sure to keep your payments current
