A friend of mine asked if she could use my address and phones for a job. I thought nothing of it. She asked to used me for a job reference, and asked that I use a different name. A name she gave me. I said ok. Today, I discovered that she has been using someone's id to help her get her loans. Can I get in trouble with the law for allowing her to use my info? Or answering the phone and stating that person isn't here?

Just stop and back off now..................It is against federal law to pretend to be someone else......................even on the phone. Most companies would not care checking who it was and all that..........but given her suspicious behavior and respect for the law, just tell her you can't do it anymore.

Where is this law located, I"m signing a complaint against all those peaces of crap in hollywood, all those low-life "I can't get a real job" drug agents. (Or did the Feds make a special rule to keep the losers out of jail?)

I sure don't see that listed under federal "crimes". Not saying its not there, just want to see it.

Scooterdog: Try googling identity theft with regard to the IRS, USPS, FBI, SEC, and other federal agencies. It sounds as though Needy73's friend is committing fraud, and Needy73 unwittingly agreed to be her accomplice. Why did you bother to post a reply? You had nothing beneficial to add, your post didn't make any sense, and your tone was inflammatory. What's the point?

To Needy73: If your friend defaults on the loans, then you probably could be in trouble. If none of the lawyers on this forum responds to your post, then I suggest that you consult a lawyer regarding your culpability in your friend's actions.

You better tell all the musicians, Pro Wrestlers, actors, etc...., they all use fake name.

Stealing an identity is one thing, using an alias is completely different. Drug agents do this as well.

Please read the original post more critically. Needy73 states that:

Her friend is using someone else's id to get loans.
Her friend is using her address and phone number, most likely to get those loans.
Her friend provided a name to use for a "job reference" which probably means that the name belongs to someone working for the company for which Needy73 provided the reference.

Impersonating another person for monetary gain is a crime. The friend has implicated Needy73 in her scheme to benefit monetarily.

You are confusing the use of fake names, or aliases, with impersonation of another person. I'm sure that mafioso was referring to impersonation when he said that pretending to be someone else is against the law. The implication in Needy73's post is that her friend asked her to impersonate another person.
