Hi. As the regulars here may know, my father recently passed away and there was a will. I am involved through his estate. My mother passed 18 years ago and didn't have a will, the estate is still half in her name, her half is to go to me and my sister. My father left his half of the estate to step mom. Now she is offering to buy me out of my share and lawyer says it will be fair market value and will have an appraiser to go out and assess the property, if I am interested.

I don't know if I want to sell or not. But was thinking of responding by saying that I am strongly considering it...as I don't want to commit to anything just yet. alot depends on the amount of the offer. I'm not just going to give it away--I was raised in that house, it holds alot of childhood family memories. she doesn't just get it because she gets what she wants.

heres my question. if they come back with an offer--can I ask for more if its not to my liking? Lets say for sake of conversation, my share is worth $9000, can I ask for $10,000 plus put a small stipulation on it. like I will sell for blah blah amount plus the items that I was promised by stepmother, that I have not received? The way I see it, she REALLY wants me out and the house in her name. me and sister stand in the way of her doing that. years from now, the house will be worth more and my share would be worth more, she will be coming out ahead by me getting out early. Don't know what sister is going to do. she won't tell me. Its almost like we're playing cards and shes afraid to show me her hand. I simply asked in case she was interested in buying me out.

so what I'm asking is, if I don't like what they offer, can I tell them what I would like and put that on the table? thanks much, silence
