I had a small wood fire in my backyard police came and i will be issued a ticket
what is the penalty. do I need an lawer, any info is helpful

This is probably a violation of a local ordinance. The fine will be specified in the ordinance. If you contact the county and ask around for a code enforcement officer, assuming that's what they are called there in NJ, then you can find out exactly how things will proceed.
