I got a Expired DL, DWI which i didnt get a percent because I didn't blow hard enough. As i was uncuffed I was following the police officer out and picked up his keys. Which I thought they were for me. I got arrested for second time for contraband in parish jail, criminal mischeif and theft under 300. What am I facing? What does thes charges mean? Can I fight any of them?

There is probably more to the story here which would explain why you were arrested on new theft/contraband charges.

Where did you pick up his keys? From a desk? From the floor? Were they somehow intermingled with your own items as you were getting your personal property?

You probably don't have much to worry about. If your defense is that you somehow thought they were your keys, it is up to them to prove that your intent was to steal them. As you describe it, it sounds like a simple mistake. The contraband part is probably because of handcuff and other security related keys, and again, it is up to them to prove your intent rather than the incident being a simple error. Believe it or not, it is not illegal to carry a loaded firearm into a jail.... it is illegal to knowingly do it. If you did not know the nature of the keys, you won't get stuck with any of this.

Let an attorney work it out for you. Don't talk to anyone without an attorney present. It sounds like the only way something could come of those new charges is if you say something you shouldn't.

What gets me though... if it was such an obvious, simple mistake, why did they charge you with so much? It seems they threw the book at you, which makes me think something more was going on.
