Hello,
I am currently on a delayed sentence for RTF 3rd degree. This was my first and only offense in my life and I have learned my lesson. This whole incident has caused me extreme guilt, shame and anxiety and I have thought of suicide more than once. I am afraid I am looking at a bleak future with no chances for ever getting a job again. Yes, I know it's dramatic, but I suffer from an anxiety disorder and OCD, so I cannot stop obsessing about how what I've done is so awful and how awful the future will be now. Here are my questions, if anyone could provide answers.

1. Is there any way to check if you are in the National Retail Theft database? I am sure I probably am, but I just want to know. And, if so, is there any way you can have the store remove you from that database, even after you've 'done your time' so to speak. I am finding it will be impossible to get a job, because most companies utilize some form of background check with the Retail Theft database as part of it.
2.I've never received a civil demand letter. It's been 4 months since the incident, 3 months since I was put on probation. My attorney has told me not to worry about it, but I'm thinking that I should. I don't want this to ruin my credit, but I know that the store has all the information on me. Do I just keep waiting for it? I wouldn't even know who to call, and I cannot contact the store.

Thanks for any help

1. The only ways to find out if you are in said database is if you subscribe yourself or someone tells you. Send a PM to Norman jr of this site (a trusted member) give him the name of the store you stole from (in PM only) he can tell you if that store subscribes to the retail theft database.

2. I have heard of these letters sometimes taking months to arrive. However if your concerned contact the store you were caught at and ask them for the number of the civil recovery service they use. You will not need to give your name and ask for Loss Prevention (security) when calling they should have that number.
