Hello all,

I hope someone can help. My girlfriends mother is in declining health and although I hope that she gets better, I want to be prepared for the worst. I spoke to the management company of my unit and explained that I may need to move out if she does pass away and move in with my girlfriend to help out with bills and her kids etc. They told me that they would need a 60 day notice paying rent during that time, plus another 2 months lease buyout/liquidation fee when I turn in my keys. Is there anything I can do to get out of all these fees? I cannot afford to come up with ~3500 to get out of my lease.

Sorry but the mgmt company is not required to allow you to end your lease with no penalty. The girlfriends mom is not on the lease and she is not a party to it at all.

You might want to see if you can sublet your unit out or assist them in finding another renter. Can you move them into your apt?

Also, check your lease to see if what the management company is telling you is correct. Don't take their word for it, read it for yourself.
