My jurisdiction is: GA
I retained an attorney 10 months ago and filed for divorce. Husband and I own several businesses and he told me I could sign everything over to him and walk away debt free and pennyless. After 25 years. I drafted a settlement and sent it to him in July 2008. He didn't respond until Dec. 2008. Told me I was crazy. Over this period of time I have done tremendous leg work for the attorney as not to have to pay fees. Everytime something was done with the business I informed my attorney. I'm not at the business but the ex to be has continued to run it. Making money but not giving me a dime since Jan. 1 2009. He hasn't paid credit cards in my name but has paid his off. Therefore ruining my credit. He has also let property we owned go to foreclosure as not to have to give half to me. Now he is leasing it back from the bank and continuing to operate the business on it. Making money but not paying any bills with my name (credit cards) or giving me any money to survive. My attorney has not gotten me in front of a judge YET. We had a court date in Jan. but opposing counsel had medical leave (which we didn't know until day of) if they notified my attorney he didn't tell me. What do I do now? Other judges have stepped down because of our families prominence in the community. Now I have a court date for July but my attorney has withdrawn himself because my retainer has been used up and I have a bill of 9000. But if he doesn't get me money to live on and pay bills I can't pay him either. NEED HELP DESPERATELY. At the end of this month my savings is gone. I will be homeless and probably loose my car...everything. I've applied at several jobs and have been traveling to test for one but still have two more steps in their process to be hired and I will have to relocate to their city.
Our business is one that made deposits of over 500,000 dollars in 4 months (peak season) in 2008 and he let it go to foreclosure and now my home is being advertised and will sell on the courthouse steps in June. Our business paid all of our bills....everything. We didn't get a weekly salary. What do you suggest I do now?
