I have a friend who switched a 50% discount tag on a skirt that originally had a 25% tag on it, so she paid for it. But it was considered as shoplifting. This was her first time ever getting into trouble with the law. She didn't have to go to court they dismissed her case. She only paid a fine. but on her record she is considered as a convicted felon. So we was wondering what could be done about this situation and how to get her record cleared. She was able to keep her job. She moved to another state and now its hard for her to find a job b/c of her record.

A felon? What was the discount tag for, an SUV?

They dismissed the case, but she had to pay a fine anyway? Did they maybe reduce it to a civil infraction?

Maybe your "friend" isn't telling you everything. . .

Well this truly happened. She didn't have to attend court at all she didn't get arrested she only paid a fine. The discount tag was on a skirt for her daughter. She has the documents stating and proving that her case was dismissed. when she applied for a job at a school her background check came back stating her as a convicted felon. do you have any advice on what the next step she should take and this happened 3 years ago.Could she have this removed from her record if could how possible

If she had no court date its doubtful she was convicted of anything. Furthermore the event you desribe does not fall under any Felony charge I am familar with. In many cases background checks can be seen by the person themself. This is option when you agrtee to such check. She might check to see if this is even her this charge is under or a similar name.

so should she go down to the police department and check her record herself instead of taking another person words
