I am wondering what the laws are in NH for tenants who have a shared driveway to access shared parking spaces. I live in a duplex and the downstairs neighbors have friends and/or family pop over whenever they want, blocking the end of the driveway so I can neither get out or back in after going out. One night they were not home and they had allowed 4 vehicles to park in the driveway, blocking me in so I could not go out and get food for supper to feed my children. It took a phone call to the cops to locate the owners and an hour later I went to the store. When I got back, the same cars where there again. The cops told me I would need to put up a sign or they wouldn't be able to help me. I called the landlord who agreed I could put up a sign. The next day, the tenants downstairs, came out screaming at me with family and friends in unison to tell me I was a number of vulgar terms and that they had the right to park there since their sister lived there, and that they felt I was harassing them. Well, I live there too and I should have equal rights to the parking spaces and the driveway ahead of any visitors wouldn't you think? I am frustrated because later on I found out that the tenants told the landlord the visitors were relatives and they said he was under the impression they were unknown owners. I never said they were unknown. I only said they were there and the neighbors were no where to be found because I checked. The neighbor wanted to know why no one contacted her. I told her it was because they weren't home. Anyway, she told me her friends and family would continue to park there if they wanted to. I must have rights concerning this don't I?? Thanks

The sign says No Parking or Blocking end of driveway or tenants' parking spaces. Unauthorized vehicles will be towed at owner's expense.

You've done what the police and landlord has suggested (i.e., the sign). Next time this happens you could consider calling to get these vehicles towed; however, this is not likely to make your relationship with your neighbors any better.
