Never received ticket now in collections

I was given a ticket in San Diego for stepping on to the sidewalk with an alcoholic drink in my hand. The cop said it would cost around $30.00. I never received the ticket in the mail. It could be because they spelled my last name wrong. Anyway now it is in collections and the ticket is $200.00 with $300.00 added for going into collections. Am I stuck paying $500.00?

And what happened when you appeared in court at the date and time specified on the citation?

Or did you also fail to appear in court? If you failed to appear, it is likely that a warrant is also out for your arrest.
