Hello,
I'm new to this forum and am a 33 year old hearing-impaired man from Cleveland and have some suspicions about my landlady at the house (whom I live with as a house-mate)..I wish I could write all about it but don't have the time to yet but will very soon. The lease is month to month with no termination fee if I leave, so essentially I can move out anytime I want, BUT she made me make a security deposit. How can one make a security deposit if there is no lease? Is this legit?
But one of the things is that she was supposed to give me a copy of the tenancy contract a few months ago and never got around to doing that and I wonder if she's in violation of the law for keeping the original? Do scanned copies of the contract show some merit or actual photo-copies? Can a landlord/landlady ask for rent twice in the same week (which she has tried to and almost got me destitute and broke because of what she's involved with which I'll get to later on). And can a landlady/landlord tell me what to do in order to find a job or where to work at or make suggestions? Can he/she threaten eviction if I dont' find another part or full-time job when I'm already employed? Is this also a violation of my rights? There's something shady about her that I don't trust and she's making me paranoid about what she's doing.
Thank you,
A very concerned tenant.
