Hi...

My boyfriend and I want to get married, but I have a lot of debt (student loans, etc). So naturally, we are holding back on getting married because we don't want for him to also be responsible for any of my debt. :(

Is there some sort of document/affidavit/pre-nup agreement, etc. for the state of Kansas (or in the U.S.) that can protect him from my debt if we WERE to get married? :blush

In other words, if we do get married, will my new husband ever be responsible for, or be forced to pay for any of the debt that is ONLY in MY name?

Thanks!!! :D

Don't let YOUR debt delay your wedding plans.

Any debt that you incurred prior to your wedding is yours alone.

Your intended is not responsible for one, fat nickel of your debt!

You don't need any kind of agreement for him to have no responsibility for anything you did, prior to marrying him!

HOWEVER..... If you default on your debts, all joint accounts and property will be at risk of being seized to pay the debt. To avoid this, keep checking and savings accounts, as well as other assets, separate.
