My husband tragically drowned one week ago and the newspaper, this morning, listed my full name and his full name and described what happened. They listed my name because I witnessed the accident (it was a boating accident and a drowning) and I called 911. They even had a huge photo of the scene including all the rescue boats and the chaos that I have so carefully tried to shield from my children until things had settled down.
This has caused tremendous chaos and pain for our family because there are many people who did not yet know about his death and this is how they found out. The article was very cold and spoke about my husband like any other "dead body" so for those who cared about him, finding out this way was not good. We were "nobodys" in this area so only our connections knew our names but it feels so invasive and has doubled our pain.
I have two children to care for and now I'm having to take calls left and right from distraught friends, etc, whom we had not yet had time to contact.
I know they cannot "take back" the article....but is there anything I can or should do here?
Thanks for reading.
