I have a niece and nephew who are not my blood relatives. My niece is the daughter of my bestfriend of 21 years and my nephew is a co-workers/very close friend from of the past 4 years. I take these children every where: doctor appointments, fieldtrips, sleep overs, etc. I buy them everything from clothes to books when I shop. But money isn't important when it comes to family. I would give my life for those two.I love them with all my heart. My bestfriend has already put me in the will to get my niece if anything were to happen to her and her husband. My other friend has told the father of my nephew that if anything were to happen to her, she would want me to take him. This did not go over well with him since we don't get along but that's another story.. Is this a possibility? and if so, how would I go about making this happen?

You cannot will a child. Since you are not even related to these kids, the mother cannot overstep the fathers rights here. In the event mom does die, the father would likely get custody. You would have a huge custody battle on your hands most likely.

I'm aware that the father would have custody of his son and I would not fight him in court over the issue. It was just a request of the mother, that's all. The father is a clot on society but he is a good father. Either way, I still want to be legally made both of the childrens aunt.
