Hello,

My power was recently shut-off by the electric company here in Louisville, KY. They shut it off in the middle of the night without any notification. When we called in the morning, they advised us that they needed to shut it down to do repairs for other customers. They assured us it would be back up within 24 hours. Well, it is 36 hours later now and we don't have power. Furthermore, they have no timeline for when it will be restored. They tell us we just have to wait. Can they legally shut off our power without notification and without any timeframe for when it will be restored? Also, our account is completely current to the best of my recollection we have never been late on the payment since we moved in 2 years ago.

If they need to repair something that may affect your property and your safety as well as of those around you, yes, they can legally do that. As far as notifications, it all depends on the immediacy of the situation and the degree of complexity of the work that needs to be performed. Hope this helps!
