My jurisdiction is: Iowa

My husband and I have rented our current residence for over the past 2 yrs. There was no written lease at any time. The landlord had stated that we have a good 15 yrs. here, and we made sure he kept repeating that so we wouldn't have to move our large family again in the next few years. Yesterday he came over and told us to move out immediately so some of his relatives can move here. My husband even tried to give him rent for the week and he refused to take it. (we pay him weekly instead of monthly, it's easier for us) We have 5 children and its late October, I find it impossible to get out immediately or even 30 days. He did not give us any notice of any kind in writing to move. What are our options? Thank You, Mrs. Perry

Unfortunately, since you pay your rent on a week to week basis, you are considered a weekly tenant.

In your state, your landlord need only give 10 days notice that he/she wishes for you to vacate the premises. No reason for this notice needs to be provided; however, such a notice is typically given in written form.
