I work in a school run by a Society which has run out of money. We were just told today that the school will cease to run on Tuesday (today is Thursday) unless we agree to volunteer our time. We as a staff have rejected this proposal. We are in British Columbia and the Employment Standards Branch, while sympathetic are unable to help us get our severance pay in our contract of three months. The Society is broke but has assets. We can not afford a lawyer to go to trial for us. Can we pursue our claims individually for severance in small claims court?
