Six years ago my father passed and my brother and I were added to the house. I ran into some financial trouble and my brother thought it in my mothers best interest to remove my name from the house. I eventually ended up filing for bankruptcy and they came after the house because they said I was liquidating an asset which we had no idea that's what happend by removing my name. We assumed the whole purpose of adding ours names was in case of my mothers death only. To note the house is paid off. Well since then my mother has passed also, leaving only my brothers name on the house. I have lived here for 6 years caring for my mother until she passed. My brother and I agreed that I remain here and pay for everything...utilities, insurance, taxes, etc. Now my brother had to file for bankruptcy and they are stating that I also have to pay rent. Is our verbal agreement null and void now? Is a verbal statement all I need to make this happen or are they required to send me something in writing stating that I have to pay rent. Do they also have to state the I am responsible for everything else and rent too?
If we decide to sell the house will the entire profit go towards the bankruptcy or am I entitled to half as it was expected by my parents?
