Hello. My ex was court ordered months ago to pay child support, and it use to be garnished out of his unemployment. Now he has a job, self employed, thru Aflac, and is not paying. He now owes me over $3000 for our daughter (we won't talk about how he has not paid a dime for our second daughter who is now 8mths old) My question is, what can I do, since he is court ordered isn't he in contempt of court? How come they have not done anything? Is there something I can do? Please help. Thank you.

Honesty, you cannot squeeze blood out of a turnip. How that he is self employed it is going to be hard to prove his income and you cannot garnish his wages. If he is not turning a profit, which is very possible he really willnot make much money at this job for a few months, you cannot force him to pay. sorry but that is the reality of it. If he has filed taxes for 2009 and he gets a refund, it will be intercepted if he is in arrears.

Child suppport enforcement can only do so much. They have thousands of people chase after and the economy is bad right now so they cannot go after every single parent that owes. You have an obligation to support your kids and do the best you can now that you know he cannot be depended on. Don't count on his $$ to get buy, because you probably will not see it regularly.
