Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Non US citizen shoplifting in NY

I'm european and got caught shoplifting in NY, I was fingerprinted and photographed by the police, it was my first offence and i was given a day court four weeks later, I shoplift two days before my student visa expire,so I had to leave the country. I told the police officer this and he told me to write a letter to the court explain this and saying how sorry I was.
I left the country and go back to Europe. I wrote the letter and sent to the court but it was sent back to me.
I want to fix this, and pay for what I did, but don't know how to do it, I'm thinking all the time about what I did and can't sleep or eat.
Please if someone can advice me what to do I would appreciate it.

You now likely have a warrant for your arrest for failure to appear. Entering this country again could get you arrested. Contact an Attorney here in states see if he can help you
