I work for a retail firm and rang up fake returns onto gift cards and store credit. the amount is around $600. i didnt use any of the cards, and the balance has been removed from them. what should i do?

Ok I am a little confused. You rang up phony gift cards that totaled about $600.00. Now the balance from these cards is removed? Who removed balance and where is that balance now? You might have just made it easier to track you

either management or corporate did.
i felt bad about having them, and didn't use them, just checked their balance. the card was declined, as in there was no money on them anymore.

Which means your dead in the water now. They caught you and took action. This could very likely rise to felony level theft. Do not answer any questions from store or Police until you have consulted an Attorney

Thats your call not ours. Your quitting is not likely going to keep them from fiing charges if they so choose. If called in admit nothing, say nothing and especially sign nothing. It would very wise at this point to strt calling Lawyers. You have not said what state this is in so I cannot tell you if this reaches felony levels yet or not. It could be several days or weeks before your called in. Its likely they will investigate as many of your transactions, purchases, etc as they can to build a case.
