I have a civil judgement against me for 9k. I recently came off disability and do not have any income yet. I am overdrawn, I don't own my home, rent is 2 mos past due. Car payment is 2 mos past due as well.
What is considered "real property" if I don't own anything and have no money or income? Can they come to my house and take my computer or other personal belongings? That is my means to find work and I am a writer, so that computer is my equipment. The notice says "notice of involuntary lien. Abstract of judgement-civil and small claims, issued on July 31."

From Wikipedia: "In the common law, real property (or realty) refers to one of the two main classes of property, the other class being personal property (personalty). Real property generally encompasses land, land improvements resulting from human effort including buildings and machinery sited on land, and various property rights over the preceding."

But to better answer your question, state laws may vary. With regard to execution on a lien, there is usually an amount up to which can be exempted, in some states it is up to $10,000 which may consist of:
  • $X for a house/ mobile home
  • $X for other real estate or personal property, which could include your computer
  • $X in bank accounts, stocks, bonds
  • All health aids and some retirement or pension funds

Best of luck to you.
